Erasmus MC
For the Healing Environment of the new building part of Erasmus MC, we advised the hospital about the right look and feel but also we also created tailor-made furniture: from armchairs and corner benches to reading tables and a sleeping furniture. In addition, the location in the heart of Rotterdam created a major logistical challenge. Take a look at the end result.
A healing environment
For a new interior, Erasmus MC chose Ahrend as the right partner to solve challenges involved in the field of (hospital) design while managing a complex logistics project. The approximate 205,000 m2 floor space had to be adapted to the Healing Environment concept: a physical environment that promotes well-being and reduces stress for patients, family and staff. High quality products were a key requirement for the creation of this new construction project.
In order to make the facility fully in line with the Healing Environment concept, Ahrend created appropriate (tailor-made) furniture for employees, as well as patients and visitors. Think of waiting benches, reading tables, corner benches and armchairs.

Logistics was a major challenge within this project: Erasmus MC is in the heart of Rotterdam. In addition, it involved around ten different houses, the rooms were not always adjacent and it was spread over thirteen floors with limited lift capacity. So during the planning process, a lot of flexibility was required.
Ahrend ensured that patients and visitors have a pleasant, healthy and safe working environment together with Erasmus MC staff. A beautiful and comprehensive project!
