Extensive project, solid project management

The accountants and consultants at BDO's former locations in Alphen aan den Rijn and Rijswijk now have a fully-renovated office environment in which to work. The ground floor offers a huge reception and meeting area with a wide choice of consultation rooms, conference and presentation areas and lunching facilities. From there, a broad tribune staircase - which can also be used for presentations - leads to the six 'work floors' above. These work floors provide ample space for activity-related work, thanks to flexible workspaces and touch-down and concentration areas. The overall refurbishment project was in need of solid project management, which we were happy to provide on request.    

Ergonomics and sustainability

Some of BDO's other locations have been furnished by Ahrend. The 'basic workstation' comprises the ergonomic Ahrend Team-Up and user-friendly Ahrend 2020 desk chair. At the new location, the desks have been given an individual touch: a black frame with dark tabletop and inbuilt wireless charger. Attention was also turned to sustainability: we revitalised 95 office chairs from the location in Rijswijk.  

Fine-tuned coordination

The project was characterised by our close collaboration with BDO, the construction manager Buro Van Linden, and M+R interior architecture. Account manager Rof Smeets: "We sourced the furniture we wanted beforehand and moved it all to the Ahrend Inspiration Centre in Sint-Oedenrode. There, each and every product was subject to a detailed inspection. The delivery was an exceptional operation too: some of the items had to be moved with a telescopic handler on a specially-reinforced deck. 

M+R interior architecture on Ahrend

It was no different this time: it was a pleasant and open dialogue, allowing us to choose a good selection of furniture. We spent most of a day with the stakeholders in the Ahrend Inspiration Centre, choosing product types, upholstery finishes and colourways. Ahrend gets involved in the process and walks you through the options. Along with ergonomics and sustainability, they deliver expertise in the field of user-friendliness. They're familiar with all the latest developments - like wireless chargers set into the tabletops: a wonderful solution. The new interior is relatively streamlined, but it has a warm and homely feel about it thanks to the material choices and natural colourways. I am proud of the shared result; it has created an amazing whole. Better still, the client is absolutely delighted with it. We don't create these buildings for ourselves, but for users.’
