Reuse means taking back products or materials for reuse. If the furniture or components cannot be reused, they are recycled in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle philosophy, and used in other products.

Once furniture is returned, products or components are reused as much as possible. This provides a real contribution to closing the material loop. If we are unable to reuse products or certain components, then the materials are recycled in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle principle.

Ahrend is one of the very few companies in the world that can call itself a Cradle to Cradle company. Materials and components are recyclable, while the use of glue, chrome, poisonous substances and liquid paint is avoided.

Together with our Cradle to Cradle partner, Van Gansewinkel Groep, we have studied the ways in which the recyclability and disassembly of office chairs could be improved. One of our findings was that glue residues made it difficult to separate the parts. As a direct result of this finding, we have stopped gluing our chair upholstery since 2010.
