Royal Ahrend received the PSO certificate (more social entrepreneurship performance ladder) after obtaining a high score in an independent audit. Ahrend offers employment to some 200 people who are distanced from the labour market and stimulates ‘buying social’ at suppliers and customers. For these efforts, the office furnisher reached Level 3, the highest PSO certification, on 1 April 2018. This means that Ahrend is leader in the field of employment opportunities for people with a vulnerable employment status.
Royal Ahrend is the first Royal enterprise to become leader in the field of more social entrepreneurship. Moreover, the company is the only one in the office, care and education sector with a PSO certification. This is increasingly important for enterprises and government institutions who wish to implement the Quota Act and/or wish to realise their SROI (Social Return on Investment) objectives.
Eugène Sterken, CEO of Royal Ahrend commented: ‘Social entrepreneurship is deeply rooted at Ahrend. Attention for circularity and social entrepreneurship are two important pillars which attribute enormously to the success of our companies in the Netherlands and abroad. We employ some 200 people with a distance from the labour market. They work with us in the (dis)assembly of office and school furniture. We are proud to be working with these people. Their attention for detail and devotion are essential for the high quality of our products and the circular character of our product range.’
Royal Ahrend and its subsidiaries increasingly work with suppliers and partners that also practice social entrepreneurship. By making more organisations do the same, together we grow towards a more inclusive society.
In the Netherlands Royal Ahrend comprises the companies Ahrend Nederland, Gispen Nederland and Presikhaaf Schoolmeubelen. Each of these leading companies have the PSO certificate.
PSO performance ladder
The performance ladder More social entrepreneurship (PSO) of TNO is a scientifically substantiated measuring tool which shows to what extent organisations work towards jobs or development opportunities for people with a distance from the labour market. PSO organisations do that by providing job opportunities. Moreover, PSO-certified companies also stimulate their own suppliers and customers to conduct business in a socially responsible way.
In recent years, PSO has grown into the national standard for more social entrepreneurship. PSO has four performance levels: Prospective status, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The idea behind the Level approach is that organisations can climb the PSO performance ladder by offering more employment in a sustainable way to vulnerable groups in our society.
