Minimising your environmental impact starts at the drawing board. During the design process, we calculate the environmental impact of our design and material choices through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). By doing so, we make decisions that ensure minimal CO2 emissions for our furniture.

What is an LCA?

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the standardised method for calculating the environmental impact of a product. This impact is measured by collecting emissions data from every phase of the product's lifecycle.

The 5 lifecycle phases are:

  • Phase 1: Raw material extraction (A1)
  • Phase 2: Production & processing (A2)
  • Phase 3: Transport (A3)
  • Phase 4: Use & retail (B)
  • Phase 5: Waste management (C-D)

How do we calculate our LCAs?

We calculate our LCAs according to the ISO14025 and EN15804-2 methods. When launching a new piece of furniture, we have the LCA calculations externally verified with an Environmental Footprint Declaration (EPD). Additionally, our Sustainability Sheets provide detailed information about material usage, making the CO2 impact of all our furniture transparent.

We calculate from Cradle-to-Grave
There are different LCA models. We use the Cradle-to-Grave model, which measures all five lifecycle phases—from the moment a product leaves the factory (cradle) to the end of its lifecycle, including the waste phase (grave). The Cradle-to-Gate model, in contrast, only measures the first two phases: raw material extraction and production/processing.
