30 years of the Techo Art Collection: Where design meets art
For more than 30 years, Techo - founded in Prague and now an integral part of Royal Ahrend - has stood for craftsmanship, design expertise, and a deep-rooted connection with culture. What began as a small furniture company in the early 1990s has evolved into an influential brand known for high-quality interiors and long-lasting collaborations with artists and designers. This philosophy comes to life in the Techo Art Collection, a unique tradition that unites design, craftsmanship, and fine art.
A tradition born of humble beginnings
This year, the Techo Art Collection celebrates 30 years. Three decades during which an initially modest initiative has evolved into a unique tradition connecting design, craftsmanship, and fine art. The collection demonstrates that even within a corporate environment, projects can emerge that carry cultural significance and lasting value. It is not only about works of art, but is also a story of collaboration, creativity, and shared vision.
From the first print to a remarkable collection
The origins of this tradition date back to 1996, when the first graphic print, by Karel Chaba, was created. What, according to co-founder Jan Hampl, began almost by chance soon developed into a thoughtful and respected collection. The collaboration between the leadership of the then Techo, now Ahrend, and prominent artists laid the foundation for a partnership that continues to this day.
Renowned artists, and a distinctive legacy
Over the years, the Techo Art Collection has grown to include works by leading Czech and Slovak artists such as Oldřich Kulhánek, Michael Rittstein, Jiří Načeradský, Theodor Pištěk, Jiří Sopko, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, and Krištof Kintera. Each artist has contributed a unique perspective, creating a diverse and inspiring collection that reflects both the evolution of contemporary art and broader societal changes.
Why the connection between Ahrend and art matters
The Techo Art Collection is more than a curated series - it is a natural part of Ahrend’s philosophy. Our connection with art has long been a source of inspiration and energy. We believe that a high-quality work environment is not defined solely by functionality, but also by the emotions a space evokes. Art brings depth, identity, and a human dimension to the workplace.
Showroom as a space for work and inspiration
This philosophy can be experienced in our own spaces. The Ahrend showroom is not merely a place we present furniture of the Ahrend, Gispen and Techo brands, but a dynamic environment where design and art naturally intersect. Visitors are welcomed by striking installations, and inside, workspaces blend seamlessly with gallery elements. Here, art is not an addition - it is an integral part of the everyday experience.
30 years of inspiration - and looking ahead
Thirty years of the Techo Art Collection demonstrate the value of connecting business with art. It fosters creativity, strengthens relationships, and brings new perspectives into working life. Today, a new generation builds on the legacy of the original authors, bringing fresh energy and a contemporary outlook to the project. In this way, the tradition continues to evolve naturally - and we look forward to where it will lead in the years to come.
